Transparency International Turkey’s Panel on Judiciary in the Fight against Corruption

Olgu Kama, Partner with İnal Kama Attorney Partnership, Norton Rose Fulbright’s affiliated practice in Istanbul, and Vice Chair of Transparency International Turkey, recently moderated a panel entitled “Judiciary in the Fight against Corruption” which was organized by Transparency International Turkey. Other panel participants were, Attorney Turgut Kazan, former president of Istanbul Bar served for four consecutive terms, Attorney İlhan Cihaner, former public prosecutor and member of Republican People’s Party and Prof. Dr. Turgut Tarhanlı, Public International Law and Human Rights Law Professor and the Director of the Bilgi Human Rights Law Research Center.

Speakers discussed the problems in the judiciary system and they remarked on certain shortcomings of the current legal and political environment. They identified the issues that need to change and ways of tackling them. In their closing remarks, all of the panelists acknowledged the current challenges but also expressed optimism about the future.
