Biography
Mohammed is a senior employment and labour lawyer based in Johannesburg with over 20 years' experience in employment law.
He focuses on all areas of employment and labour law and acted as a Judge of the Labour Court on a number of occasions. Mohammed has served as the President of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) for two years.
He has a large local and international client base and has represented blue chip clients in the banking, finance, IT, retail, petroleum, hospitality, gaming and food and beverage industries. He has extensive experience in large-scale restructuring of businesses, business transfers, outsourcing, restraints of trade, privacy law, forensic investigations and retrenchments. Mohammed has represented clients in a number of senior executive dismissal cases at disciplinary hearings, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and the Labour Court, Labour Appeal Court and Constitutional Court He also specialises in interdicting unlawful and unprotected strikes, conducting due diligences, CCMA and Labour Court litigation, drafting contracts of employment, review applications, disciplinary codes and procedures and human resources policies and providing Risk and Regulatory advice.
Mohammed has been a regular contributor of the South African Chapter of the EU & International Employment Law Handbook and has contributed to many articles in newspapers and magazines. He speaks regularly at seminars on employment and labour law issues and has appeared on national radio on a few occasions.
He is ranked as a leading lawyer for employment and labour by Chambers, Legal 500, and has been recognised by Best Lawyers as one of the top performing legal minds in labour and employment .
Mohammed has been the recipient of the International Client Choice award in 2016 and 2021 and 2022 for exceptional client service voted for by independent in house corporate counsel.
