Biography
Stephen Taylor is a litigation lawyer with a focus on complex disputes in the areas of commercial and civil litigation. Stephen's practice area and industry experience include disputes in the areas of contract law, torts, construction and engineering, insolvency, infrastructure, technology, and corporate law. He has appeared before all levels of courts in Ontario, including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Ontario Superior Court.
Stephen placed first in the Queen's University class of 2013, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal in Law, and achieved the highest standing in both first and second year of law school, for which he twice received the Dean's Gold Scholar Award. Additionally, he was awarded course prizes in commercial law, property law theory, private law theory, the business law symposium, written advocacy, criminal procedure, tax law, property law, criminal law, and constitutional law.

Mr. Taylor has recently acted for the following clients:
- Ernst and Young Inc., in its capacity as court-appointed CCAA monitor, relating to a claim to recover transfers at undervalue that was argued before the Ontario Superior Court, Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court of Canada;
- Turquoise Hill Resources, in connection with its acquisition by Rio Tinto. Stephen acted as litigation counsel for court approval of a plan of arrangement in a transaction recognized as the M&A Deal of the Year in the 2023 Canadian Law Awards;
- TELUS Communications Inc., obtaining a decision refusing an injunction related to the provision of roaming services in Canada;
- Porter Airlines, in a dispute over turn fees and force majeure during COVID-19 before the Ontario Superior Court and Ontario Court of Appeal;
- SNC-Lavalin Inc., in a number of disputes regarding contract administration, engineering, and construction of infrastructure projects in the GTA;
- Sandpiper Group, in which Sandpiper achieved the rare result of successfully setting aside a meeting date for a requisitioned shareholder meeting through a decision of the Superior Court, Commercial List; and
- Accenture Inc., in a successful dispute relating to a share purchase agreement and claims by the former owner and shareholder before the Ontario Superior Court.
