Biography
Jay Dewald is a trial lawyer with more than 25 years of experience and over 100 jury trials in federal and state court. His practice is focused on white collar criminal defense, crisis management, internal investigations, and government investigations of whistleblower claims (including Qui Tam lawsuits pursuant to the federal False Claims Act).
He is the firm's Head of Healthcare Investigations for the United States. In 2010, Jay was selected as the Northern District of Texas' Criminal Health Care Fraud Coordinator where he led the roll out of Dallas' Medicare Fraud Strike Force, also known as the Healthcare Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT)—a partnership between the US Attorney's Office, the Department of Justice's Fraud Section, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Texas Attorney General's Office's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
While he was with the Department of Justice, Jay's cases often involved high-profile matters and cutting edge issues that continue to impact clients across multiple industries. For clients ranging from corporations and financial institutions to individual directors and officers, Jay leverages his extensive experience as a former management-level federal prosecutor handling federal grand jury investigations and significant capabilities in the areas of securities fraud, organized crime, money laundering and corruption.
In surveys by industry analysts, clients and other attorneys have stated the following about Jay:
- "Jay Dewald has a superb white collar defense practice" and is "exceptionally strong in criminal fraud matters" (Chambers USA)
- "He was a prosecutor in Texas and so knows the mechanical aspects of criminal law quite well and is great with clients. He remains calm and collected when things don't go well and can figure out the path forward." (Chambers USA)
- "He is a really smart, logical thinker" (Chambers USA)
- "Jay is incredibly dedicated and hard-working; he obtains fantastic results for his clients." (Chambers USA)
- "A trustworthy advisor in high stakes legal matters. Jay is an excellent listener and analyzer, and a fantastic lawyer." (The Legal 500 United States 2023 Guide)
