Verushka is an employment lawyer based in Johannesburg.  She specialises in labour litigation, with a keen interest in discrimination and collective disputes.

Verushka joined the Durban practice in March 2002, qualified as an attorney in 2004 and was appointed as a director in 2008.

Verushka frequently litigates in the Constitutional Court, Labour Appeal Court, Labour Court, CCMA and various bargaining councils.  She has particular expertise in collective labour law; partnering with clients during strikes and organisational rights matters, and generally assisting clients to navigate the industrial relations space to avoid such disputes.  Verushka has also been involved in a number of discrimination disputes which have been reported.  Her broader practice includes drafting employment contracts, advising on employment policies and disputes with senior employees, and chairing disciplinary hearings.

In July 2009 she took up a position as Senior Legal Advisor in the Legal Department of Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd, where she gained valuable experience in-house, advising on a wide range of employment law issues, before returning to practice in April 2011.

Verushka has extensive experience in the automotive, insurance, retail and FMCG industries.  She led the legal team that represented Edcon Limited in the seminal Constitutional Court matters of Steenkamp and Others v Edcon Limited, which changed the law in respect of mass retrenchments.  She has acted as a Judge of the Labour Court.  She was recognised as a Thomson Reuters Stand Out Lawyer in 2023.

Verushka holds B.A. and LLB degrees from Rhodes University.
