Biography
Phil Hodgkins leverages over 15 years of legal and consulting experience to help navigate complex data challenges, such as regulatory compliance, investigations, litigation and data privacy, for clients in the banking, healthcare and technology industries, among others.
Phil has significant experience leading clients through a variety of investigations, discovery and privacy matters, including cross-border data transfers, multi-jurisdiction regulatory requests, C-suite investigations, data privacy regulation readiness analysis and blockchain transaction tracing. He has overseen several internal investigations for clients in the global banking sector involving the assessment and collection of data from dozens of countries, working with data privacy authorities to ensure proper processing procedures were in place for data transfer.
In addition, Phil leads cross-disciplinary teams including discovery, data analytics and visualization, forensic accounting and industry specialists to meet the reporting demands of US regulators. He also helps clients assess and build privacy programs to stay ahead of evolving regulations. Phil is a Certified Information Privacy Professional for the United States (CIPP/US).

Assessed a large multinational insurance company’s privacy program, drafted questionnaires, interviewed key stakeholders and reviewed their current policies, resulting in a detailed report to the executive committee, including key next steps for implementation of technology for automation, reporting and monitoring. Assisted the company in selecting, implementing and optimizing the company’s technology stack.
Reviewed and provided an expert report to a multinational food processing and commodities trading company regarding the privacy and discovery implications of its mobile device use policy. Advised inhouse counsel on redrafting and implementing the company’s new policy.
Partnered with Transaction Advisory team to build data privacy diligence analysis and reporting into pertinent M&A transactions and private equity acquisitions. Also assisted in establishing a valuation model for the same transactions.
Developed and grew eDiscovery service team for both litigation and investigations, as well as corporate managed services. Acted as liaison between group and key leaders within the firm to grow internal lead generation.
Led the development of an assessment tool geared towards privacy, providing clients with insights and benchmarks against their current privacy program maturity, as well as providing an actionable roadmap for development. Established terms and conditions for use.
Helped to assess and rebuild the privacy program for a large social media company, delving into the company’s global systems, categorizing data flows and working with the in-house team to redevelop their written policy, as well as assisting with their internal training program.
Worked with a large multinational corporation to prepare for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), identifying several high priority data repositories requiring immediate action along with a detailed risk-rated report outlining a two-year remediation roadmap.
Oversaw a complex internal investigation in the banking sector involving data collection from over a dozen countries. Advised clients on data privacy laws and strategies to allow for streamlined review of data.
Managed a cross-disciplinary team that included eDiscovery, data analytics, forensic accounting and industry specialists in a large SEC investigation in the automotive sector.
Led a large investigation for a multinational mining company to help prepare for possible sanctions. Advised clients on potential areas of preservation and collection at a critical juncture in the investigation, saving weeks of re-collection and downstream review time.
Designed a geolocation visualization tool to track blockchain transactions and establish standing for a US lawsuit.
