Biography

Christine (Chris) Muir's practice encompasses complex commercial litigation and high-profile administrative matters. She's skilled in complex litigation, including contract disputes, and public and appellate law. She also has experience advising on and managing defamation matters. She represents clients ranging from large corporations and institutions to small business owners and professionals in sectors including health, finance, construction and education.

She has appeared as counsel before all levels of courts in Ontario and the Federal Court of Canada, and appears before administrative tribunals, including as presenting counsel before the Ontario Judicial Council. Chris is committed to mentoring young lawyers and law students both within the firm and in the larger Toronto legal community. From 2009-2010, Chris served as a law clerk to the Chief Justice of Ontario, the Honourable Warren Winkler, and to Justices James MacPherson and David Watt of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

  • Counsel to a government official, responding to an injunction and publication ban sought in Federal Court respecting a compliance-related matter
  • Senior Counsel to Mdm. Louise Arbour in her Independent External and Comprehensive Review into sexual misconduct and sexual harassment in the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces
  • Counsel for an Ontario university before the Ontario Superior Court responding to a privacy-based challenge to the university's COVID-19 vaccination policy
  • Counsel for a school board before the Ontario Divisional Court responding to a judicial review of a trustee-related code of conduct decision
  • Presenting Counsel before the Ontario Judicial Council concerning a complaint about the conduct of a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice
  • Counsel to an Officer of Parliament before the Federal Court responding to a judicial review respecting the 2019 general election
  • Counsel before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in numerous contract-based disputes, including shareholder disputes and oppression applications, and disputes involving allegations of economic harm, negligence, and defamation
