Biography

Rajaee Rouhani is a partner in the firm's risk advisory practice. He is a contentious litigation & regulatory enforcement lawyer with over 15 years' experience. He has worked in private practice and in-house roles in Australia, the Middle East and United Kingdom. He is dual-qualified in Australia (2004) and England & Wales (2010). He has managed disputes and regulatory investigations in over 20 jurisdictions. He has a track record of successfully leading large teams and assisting clients navigate challenging regulatory investigations. 

Rajaee has expertise and in-depth experience in providing clients with strategic advice on regulatory inquiries and investigations. His core areas of focus are anti-money laundering/counter-terrorism financing, sanctions, anti-bribery & corruption and governance/oversight. He specialises in root-cause identification and remediation work. He advises boards on key strategic matters.

Rajaee has international perspective and experience. He approaches his work with the benefit of unique and specialised set of roles that he has held in the past. Prior to joining the firm, Rajaee was Co-Legal Head, Group Monitor Liaison Office, for HSBC Group for 5 years from 2015 to 2019. In this role, he co-led a team of lawyers across London, Hong Kong and the US, advising HSBC senior leadership at a global and country level on compliance with the US Department of Justice 2012 Deferred Prosecution Agreement and on the implementation of global standards to manage financial crime risk across the organisation. From 2012 to 2015, Rajaee was HSBC's head of litigation and regulatory enforcement for Middle East and North Africa. Prior to this role, from 2003 to 2012, Rajaee worked in private practice in the UAE and Australia.
