Biography
Jason is an employment, investigations and public interest lawyer based in Cape Town. Jason has been specialising in labour related matters since admission in 1998.
Jason has extensive experience litigating for, and appearing on behalf of clients, in internal enquiries, the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, Industry Bargaining Councils as well as the Labour and Labour Appeal Courts. He also specialises in the provision of general employment and labour law advice, the drafting of contracts and collective agreements. He has, for many years, been active in supporting clients in collective bargaining and strike disputes.
Jason plays a key role within the firm's Regulatory, Compliance and Investigations team and has led or co-led a number of high-profile investigations into corporate corruption and misconduct, both within the private and public sector. Jason also advises clients on their business and human rights risks and obligations in South Africa.
Jason leads the Impact Litigation team (part of the firm's Social Impact team) which focuses on litigating, on a pro bono basis, key strategic challenges to constitutionally non-compliant legislation and government policy. These challenges regularly serve before the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Appeal.
Jason is a former President of the Western Cape Chapter of the South African Society for Labour Law and sits on the Law Society of South Africa specialist committees for labour law.
He has acted as a Judge in the Labour Court.
Jason has obtained a BA LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand and a LLM from the University of Stellenbosch.
