The Road to a Just Transition

Our South African COP27 team will be speaking on Energy Day, 9th day of the of the COP27 Conference being held this year in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The team will be part of the panel discussing the “The Road to a Just Transition”, the event will be held both in person at the South Africa Pavilion, Blue Zone, Area B, pavilion 24 – Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Centre (SHICC) and online.

An exploration of where we’ve come from, where we are and where we’re going in South Africa’s Just Energy Transition journey. This panel discussion will provide an in depth look at a range of aspects affecting the implementation of the Just Energy Transition on the ground, and includes perspectives from legal advisors and developers. Key aspects include lessons learned during various Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) rounds, case studies relating to sustainable development, current trends in case law including stakeholder engagement and the importance of robust specialist studies, as well as thoughts on the opportunities and obstacles ahead for South Africa.
