Norton Rose Fulbright advises lenders on Eni’s Liverpool Bay CCS project

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised the lenders on Eni’s Liverpool Bay CCS project.

The Liverpool Bay CCS project provides the backbone to the HyNet Industrial Cluster and will transport carbon dioxide delivered by regional industrial emitters to permanently and safely store it in depleted gas fields in the Irish Sea. HyNet is one of the UK’s initial ‘Track 1’ carbon capture and storage projects. Liverpool Bay CCS is being led and developed by Eni, the integrated Italian energy company.

Norton Rose Fulbright advised the lenders on all aspects of the innovative regulated asset base financing for the project.

The team was led by London-based Global Co-Head of Energy Robert Marsh and energy transition partner Alistair Black. They were supported by a large team of multidisciplinary lawyers - including partners Madhavi Gosavi, Matt Hacking, Wasim Khan, Susanna Rogers, James Kent, Lucy Bruce Jones, Matt Hodkin and Charez Golvala, as well as counsels Suncica Miletic and Carmen Luk, senior associates Priya Kahlon, Emily Colville and Will Scott and associates Isabel Perry, Emily Allison and Luke White-Thomson.

Rob Marsh commented:

“Eni’s Liverpool Bay CCS project is another landmark for the carbon capture and storage sector, both here in the UK and globally.  Alongside the other Track 1 project, where we were also involved, the UK is setting an example of how the public and private sectors can successfully collaborate and deliver key energy solutions.  These projects will provide a blueprint for the sector as it evolves around the world.”

Alistair Black also added:

“Building on our previous success in the Track-1 process, we are delighted to have assisted lenders and Eni in delivering funding for a landmark transaction.”
