Biography
Michael Wiedmann is a corporate lawyer based in Frankfurt. He is experienced in compliance, governance and corporate matters.
Based on his in-house experience, serving as general counsel, company secretary and chief compliance officer in METRO Group, a German retail company, he has a very pragmatic and solution oriented approach.
Michael's experience includes: Assessing and sizing compliance management systems, conducting legal risk assessments, implementing policies and procedures. He also advises on anti-corruption issues in connection with companies' internal compliance policies and procedures, international business transactions and internal corporate investigations.
In his previous in-house role, Michael was responsible for the legal set-up of retail operations in multiple markets in Asia and Central and Eastern Europe and has an in-depth understanding of regulatory challenges in countries like China, India, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Türkiye.
As a former General Counsel of an international retailer with operations in more than 30 countries, Michael knows first-hand the importance of providing prompt, accurate and practical advice on legal and compliance issues, particularly in the context of balancing complex business objectives. From his own experience, he is familiar with the challenge of managing outside counsel - in a range of different jurisdictions.
