Biography
Mieke joined the Cape Town office as a real estate and property lawyer on 1 September 1999 and is currently the head of the Cape Town office and the head of the national real estate team.
Mieke has over 40 years of experience and specialises in all aspects of real estate and property law with an emphasis on property development. Her experience includes sectional title schemes which encompass mixed use developments consisting of retail, hotels, conference centres, residential and offices. Her clients include the Rabie Property Group, Zenprop, Signatura, Blok, Ingenuity and Asrin.
Key clients of Mieke's practice include financial institutions including FirstRand Group (including FNB), Investec, Nedbank, ABSA and Standard Bank.
She has lectured for SAPOA, attended to conveyancing lectures on behalf of LEAD from 1998-2004 in East London and Cape Town and arranged numerous workshops for the conveyancing profession on topics of interest. She is actively involved in the internal training of young lawyers within the company.
Mieke was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1983 and as a notary in 1989. Before joining us, she was a director of a firm in East London, South Africa, and opened a branch office for that firm in King Williams Town, South Africa. She was a member and later the Chairperson of the Planning Advisory Board of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning from April 2007 – April 2011. She obtained a certificate on Sectional Title Management from UCT in 2010.
