Norton Rose Fulbright promotes finance lawyer to partner in São Paulo

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright today announced that José A. Cobeña, a finance lawyer focused on financings and projects in Latin America, has been promoted to partner with Norton Rose Fulbright US Consultores em Direito Estrangeiro in São Paulo, Brazil.

José represents corporates, commercial banks and multilateral agencies on various types of financing and projects. He advises multinational companies and financial institutions in relation to bank lending (including export finance (ECAs) and MIGA-guaranteed facilities), project finance, construction, procurement and commercial contracts. José has particular experience in complex cross-border transactions, including deals in Brazil, Colombia, Perú, México, Chile, Argentina, Panamá, Ecuador and Venezuela.

Last year, José led the Norton Rose Fulbright team that represented JPMorgan and HSBC, as mandated lead arrangers and lenders, in a US$333.6 million hydropower plant rehabilitation program deal in Mexico, which was guaranteed by MIGA. This transaction was named the "ECA, DFI, IFI Deal of the Year" by 2023 Bonds, Loans and ESG Capital Markets Latin America and Caribbean Awards.
