POPIA compliance

The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPI) commenced on July 1, 2020. Anyone processing personal information in South Africa have a grace period until July 1, 2021 to get compliant with POPI. After July 1, 2021, any non-compliance with POPI will have consequences including penalties up to R10 million, civil proceedings instituted by data subjects, and criminal offences and fines in some circumstances.
