ESG as Criteria for Investment
Hybrid Event : Wednesday 08 February 2023 | 09:30 for 10:00 - 11:00
ESG has become a vital component of a company’s operations, planning and reporting. However, it is also increasingly important in order to attract investment
Join us for a panel discussion which will be held in-person and online, where we will be discussing ESG as investment criteria, where we will discuss opportunities and pitfalls with our guest speaker Musa Mabesa the Principal Executive Officer of Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF). We are also joined by Shawn Barnett, the head of the Norton Rose Fulbright Funds practice in South Africa, and Jo Feldman, whose Australian practice focusses on ESG and dispute and investment disputes. Christina Pretorius, head of mining in South Africa will be facilitating the panel.
African Mining Indaba – Day 1: 6 February 2023
Earlier this morning, ERM held a breakfast event on the topic of “Releasing women’s full potential in the front line; Practical lessons to unlock value and generate meaningful culture change.” This event was certainly a taste of the discussions to come, revolving around the social impact of mining in Africa.
This topic has been a hot topic in mining worldwide forming part of the “S” in Environmental Social and Governmental related matters (ESG). The agenda at the Mining Indaba this week would follows suit, including a keynote address on “Mining as a catalyst for sustainability in prosperous societies” and many seminars revolving around responsible and sustainable mining, diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the week.
Norton Rose Fulbright had its finger on the pulse in selecting our topic for the legal panel discussion on Wednesday, which will be held at our Cape Town office. Our topic, “ESG as investment criteria” is in theme with the discussions being held at the convention centre and will offer valuable and additional insight into a topic that is essential to success in mining today.
