Biography
Alvin Wong is a banking and finance lawyer based in Hong Kong.
Alvin represents financial institutions, corporates and financial sponsors on highly structured cross-border financing transactions including acquisition financing, pre-IPO financing, take-private financing, real estate financing, structured financing and margin financing. Alvin frequently advises on sustainable lending, covering sectors spanning across pharmaceutical, life science, manufacturing and real estate. Alvin also has experience in non-contentious debt restructuring arrangements.

- Citi, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley – a US$5bn equivalent USD/CNH revolving credit facility to Alipay (Hong Kong) and Alipay Singapore and a US$1.5bn revolving credit facility to Advanced New Technologies (Singapore) for refinance existing debt and for working capital and general corporate purposes. The second largest syndicated facility in APAC syndicated loan market in 2024
- HSBC as a leading financial adviser – US$3.2bn bridge facility to Chow Tai Fook Enterprises in relation to the public takeover of NWS Holdings, APAC's largest public takeover financing in 2023. Shortlisted for Finance Deal of the Year | ALB Hong Kong Law Awards 2024
- Global Coordinators and Sustainability Structuring Banks – West Kowloon Cultural District Authority’s inaugural HK$4bn sustainability linked loan facilities and subsequent HK$5bn sustainability linked loan facilities for refinancing, the first of its kind amongst statutory bodies and arts and cultural institutions in Hong Kong
- Licensed financial institution – a margin loan to a borrower for the purpose of financing its pre-IPO cornerstone investment in a PRC EV battery manufacturer. The H share listing is one of the largest IPOs in Hong Kong in 2022
- A syndicate of banks led by Industrial Bank – a US$140m sustainability-linked loan facilities with greenshoe option made available to a PRC listed EV battery producer, for financing the acquisition of a nickel smelter project in Indonesia
- A PRC investment bank as equity and debt investor – a US$62m offshore senior term loan facility, a US$200m offshore mezzanine bridge loan facility (backed by cross border RMB cash pool arrangement) and a RMB1.1bn equivalent sponsor level mezzanine financing to refinance an onshore/ offshore real estate financing involving a portfolio of 5 commercial and mixed used developments held by 5 WFOEs in the PRC through cross-collateralised structure
- A PRC Investment bank – a RMB717m refinancing of a Warburg Pincus-backed grandfathered structured mixed-use commercial project comprising of serviced apartments and co-working space in Shanghai
- Onshore and Offshore Facility Agent – a RMB1.4bn onshore/ offshore loan facilities to finance the acquisition of cold chain warehouse facilities in Guangdong province, PRC, led by one of the largest US listed PEREs
- OCBC Bank – a SG$363.6m and US$119,674,100 term loan facilities to a real estate group backed by Singapore sovereign wealth fund and a leading European pension fund for the acquisition of companies holding a mixed used development in Shanghai and the amendment and restatement exercise thereunder for, among others, the conversion of the facilities to green loan facilities
- Bank of China, Macau Branch, and other lenders – MOP3.3bn and HK$1.65bn term and revolving syndicated loan facilities to finance the construction and operation of Macau casino resort project, and the related amendment exercise, in light of the change in Macau Gaming Law in 2022
- Various lenders – various term loan facilities to a leading international bank secured by its loan asset portfolio
- A lender – a US$107m bank guarantee facility to a Hong Kong insurer for guaranteeing contingent liabilities under certain life insurance policies
