Biography
Bryan Walker practises in our litigation and disputes group, with a focus on complex commercial litigation, construction, and indigenous law. He is also the local chair for Norton Rose Fulbright’s national Pro Bono Committee.
Bryan has acted on a broad range of matters, including joint venture disputes, contractual disputes in the energy, real estate, and construction sectors, actions involving breaches of fiduciary and trust duties, and royalty audit disputes for various oil sands operators.
Bryan has appeared at all levels of court in Alberta and the Tax Court of Canada. He has also acted as counsel in a number of arbitrations and mediations.

Bryan has acted recently for the following clients:
Commercial Disputes
- Representing a large petrochemicals company in defence of joint venture disputes involving alleged breaches of an operating agreement. This ongoing dispute has been the subject of many months of trial before the Alberta King’s Bench, and has involved attendances before the Alberta Court of Appeal. See, for instance, 2018 ABQB 484.
- Representing the Government of Canada in several multi-billion dollar oil- and gas-related claims brought by several Alberta First Nations.
- Representing a number of clients in land contamination disputes.
Construction Disputes
- Representing a frac sand supplier to prosecute claims pertaining to the collapse of a storage silo.
- Representing numerous contractors in defence of claims arising from deficient work and/or fire. See, for instance, 2023 ABCA 276.
- Representing general contractors in private arbitrations relating to construction delay claims.
Royalty Disputes
- Representing oil sands and natural gas companies on appeals and judicial reviews of Alberta’s audits of their claimed revenue and costs for royalty calculation purposes. See, for instance, 2023 ABKB 317 and Oil Sands Information Bulletins 2012-19 and 2020-01.

- Advising rail shippers on railway carrier level of service obligations.
- Advising on food labelling, food safety, and importation guidelines.
- Advising landlords and property owners on building safety obligations.
