Biography

Travis Walker is a partner in the cybersecurity and data privacy group. Travis acts as external privacy counsel and "breach coach" in response to all manner of security and privacy breaches, including ransomware, data theft, business email compromise, and social engineering. Travis represents clients from diverse industries including financial services, energy, mining, health care, transportation, telecommunications, and education. In the event of an incident, he guides clients through each phase of the breach response and remediation life cycles, including restoration of data systems, retention of forensic experts, notification to affected individuals and stakeholders, and reporting to regulatory authorities.

Travis also works with clients to enhance their pre-incident cybersecurity posture and resiliency by creating new or modifying existing incident response plans and protocols. Travis consults with incident response teams, executives, and boards of directors to conduct interactive workshops and tabletop exercises to educate and coach organizational stakeholders on best practices for incident response and improving plans, policies, and procedures.

Travis advises public and private-sector organizations on matters pertaining to federal and provincial access to information laws and, where necessary, represents clients in related disputes before privacy regulatory authorities.

In his general privacy practice, Travis helps organizations establish and refine privacy and data governance policies to ensure compliance with both national and local regulatory requirements.

Travis has a defence litigation background and has represented data controllers and third-party service providers in disputes arising from data loss and unauthorized access to personal information.
