Michael is an Associate in the Aviation Team in the Insurance Litigation department based in Sandton, Johannesburg.

He works closely with the insurance litigation directors in the Johannesburg office and also specifically within the broader aviation team. He has been involved in several legal issues in the aviation insurance disputes practice including hull, cargo, third party liability claims, subrogated claims and passenger liability claims. He also works on matters involving airline risk management, contractual and regulatory queries for both airlines and insurance companies. Michael has participated in matters in both the Magistrate and High Courts and has resolved disputes on matters by way of mediation and arbitration.

Michael has assisted on commercial matters involving drafting of aviation-related commercial agreements including hangarage, aircraft maintenance agreements, charter and pilot services agreements. In addition, he has also presented a number of webinars and seminars for clients on topics ranging from issues relating to the Montreal Convention, automation in aviation and a decarbonised aviation industry.

Michael obtained a BA Law degree and a LLB degree from the University of Pretoria and having spent a significant part of his articles in the Insurance Litigation team and Banking and Finance team. Michael was retained in the Aviation Team at the beginning of 2022.
