Biography
Douglas is an attorney, conveyancer and notary public and heads up the real estate practice in our Durban office. He has worked in this field for more than twenty years and has extensive experience in both commercial and residential property and in advising financial institutions relative to lending structures and loan security.
Douglas has acted for all the major South African banks relative to commercial property finance, including preparation of loan agreements and registration of both mortgage and notarial bonds. He deals with drafting of agreements relative to property issues, property transfers, opening of sectional title registers and reversions to the land register, share block developments and conversions to sectional title, consolidations and subdivisions, zoning issues and advising clients on all aspects of property transactions. His notarial practise also includes registration of servitudes and long leases throughout South Africa.
Douglas joined the Durban practice in April 2013, having practised previously with another leading Durban firm. He graduated with a BA degree from the University of Cape Town in 1983, and an LLB from the University of Natal in 1985. He was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1987 and as a notary public in 1988.
