Biography

Tomas has more than 10 years of experience working as a chemist and comes to the Houston office after working at the University of Houston as a research assistant. His primary responsibilities there included designing and synthesizing a library of broad-spectrum West Nile/Dengue virus NS3 protease inhibitors.

Tomas speaks fluent Spanish and has worked in environmental, analytical, synthetic organic and oilfield polymer labs. Owing to his diverse work experience, he has experience with a variety of chemistry hardware and instrumentation, including  NMR, HPLC, LC/MS, GC/MS, oilfield drilling fluid rheometer, Kjeldahl digestion, Lachat flow injection analysis, and Biotage microwave and flash purification equipment.

Before working at the University of Houston, Tomas was a research assistant at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. There, he investigated the total synthesis of the kappa opioid receptor agonist Salvinorin A and developed a substrate for the synthesis of novel C12-modified Salvinorin analogs.

Tomas has also worked as a research assistant at Texas A&M University Kingsville, an environmental chemist at the South Texas Environmental Institute and an oilfield polymer chemist at Economy Polymers and Chemicals.
