Norton Rose Fulbright partner Patrick L. O’Daniel honored by Texas Board of Criminal Justice

Norton Rose Fulbright partner Patrick L. O’Daniel (Austin) has been recognized for his years of service to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice (TBCJ). Patrick was appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to serve as Chairman of TBCJ from January 2020-2023. In honor of his service, the TBCJ is renaming the “Mountain View Unit” in Gatesville, Texas, to the “Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit.” The formal dedication took place Friday, May 3, 2024.  

“I am proud to support the state’s criminal justice system and play a part in efforts to help the men and women in our prisons,” Patrick said. “My hope has always been to provide individuals with the tools they need to turn their lives around successfully. I am deeply honored by the TBCJ’s recognition.” 

The TBCJ provides oversight to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), which operates the state’s prisons and jails. Patrick served on the TBCJ from 2017-2023 and played a pivotal role in the agency’s response to the pandemic, leading to achievements such as historic salary increases for correctional officers, the establishment of the Office of the Independent Ombudsman as well as enhanced rehabilitation and faith-based programming.

“The TBCJ and TDCJ express their deep appreciation for Mr. O’Daniel’s loyal service, integrity and tenacity,” Chairman Eric Nichols stated in a TDCJ press release. “The renaming of the Mountain View Unit to the Patrick L. O’Daniel Unit serves as a fitting tribute to his remarkable contributions.” 

Patrick is a trusted business and tax advisor to clients, efficiently solving their legal problems as part of their business team. A large portion of his practice is dedicated to the tax and public law aspects of municipal finance as well as structured and project finance.
