Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright’s New York office recently hosted an audience with the Premier of Bermuda, Hon. E. David Burt, and other members of Bermuda’s Fintech Working Group on the new legal and regulatory framework being developed to support Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) and digital asset businesses in Bermuda.
The Premier and the Bermuda’s Fintech Working Group, comprising Cabinet and other Government representatives, the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA) and other fintech industry members, spoke about Bermuda’s economy and the island’s innovative and collaborative approach to business. The Premier addressed an audience of over 100 of the firm’s lawyers from practice groups across all sectors who attended, as well as others connected via videoconference in Toronto, London, Munich, Frankfurt, the Netherlands, Dubai and South Africa. The discussion included a Q & A session with Premier Burt by New York partner Mina Matin. By implementing this new legislation, the Bermuda Government is laying the foundation for the Island to become a leading global digital asset, blockchain and ICO center.
Mina Matin, who led the event, commented: “Norton Rose Fulbright was absolutely delighted to host this event and collaborate with the Bermuda government in its vision to become a global leader in the fintech arena. We learned first-hand about the island’s new legislative and regulatory framework for digital assets, and we really hope this event will encourage premiere businesses to move to Bermuda through our global network.”

Dickens, Head of the Government’s Internal Business Development Team, Cabinet Office, Government of Bermuda; Sean Moran, Business Development Manager, BDA; John Narraway, Consultant, Emerging Technologies, BDA; Kevin Richards, Bermuda Monetary Authority and Stuart Lacey, CEO, Trunomi.
