A team of lawyers from our California offices received a favorable jury verdict for Tacos Punta Cabras and its owners following a two-week jury trial in Los Angeles Superior Court.
Tacos Punta Cabras was a popular Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica that closed in March of 2019 after the management of its building refused to remedy water leaks, mold issues and a rodent infestation.
The restaurant's owners filed a lawsuit against the landlord and property manager seeking damages for, among other things, breach of contract and fraudulent inducement. The defendant filed a cross-complaint seeking damages for breach of contract.
The jury deliberated for about two hours and found for Norton Rose Fulbright's clients on every cause of action and awarded compensatory and punitive damages against the defendants. The jury also found in favor of the firm's clients on the cross-complaint.
Norton Rose Fulbright's trial team included James Turken, Ray Muro, Neil Thakor (Los Angeles) and Katie Connolly (San Francisco).
