Cross-border teams advise on winning deals at IJInvestor Awards

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been recognised at the IJInvestor Awards 2023 for having advised on two winning deals in the Europe, Middle East and Africa category.

The fifth annual awards celebrate the innovation of companies, deals and individuals in funds and M&A activity in the energy and infrastructure sectors globally.

Teams from across Norton Rose Fulbright’s international offices advised on the winning deals, which were presented at the London awards ceremony last night, in the following categories:

Renewables Acquisition of the Year, Africa: Infinity Power’s Acquisition of Lekela Power African Wind Portfolio

Team: Chris Down, Stephen Rigby, Jason Moss, James Collis, Jackie Midlane and Madhavi Gosavi

• Advised Infinity Power in connection with its acquisition of the entire shareholding of Lekela Power (Lekela), an Africa-based wind power platform, from a consortium led by Actis and Mainstream funds. Lekela currently operates 1 gigawatt (GW) of wind power projects in South Africa, Egypt and Senegal, and has a 1.8 GW project pipeline, which are in various stages of development. This acquisition makes Infinity Power Africa's largest pure play renewable power company.

Digital Infrastructure Financing of the Year, Africa: Ethiopia Telecommunications Network

Team: Oliver Stacey, Alexandros Zekkos, Victoria Scopes, Sunny Wong and Shivani Patel

• Advised Global Partnership for Ethiopia on the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency’s (MIGA) equity investment, loan and guarantees to support the ongoing construction and operation of Safaricom Ethiopia’s greenfield telecommunications network across Ethiopia, leading to more affordable internet, reliable mobile connectivity and technology access for people and businesses in the country.

This recognition is complemented by the ‘Renewables Acquisition of the Year, North America’ presented at the Americas awards hosted in New York City on December 13 and follows another record year for the Norton Rose Fulbright team, having advised on a total USD$75bn global energy and infrastructure transactions year-to-date (IJGlobal, 2023).
