Pro bono team successfully obtains asylum for Honduras family

United States Press release - Business September 2023

A team of Norton Rose Fulbright lawyers recently secured asylum for a Garifuna LGBTQIA+ woman after she and her family faced domestic violence and discrimination in their native Honduras.

The family strived to live a normal life and build a local business in Honduras, but they were subjected to repeated threats and physical assault. In one incident, the client's wife and stepdaughter had hot oil thrown on them, resulting in months of hospitalization. The family fled Honduras in 2019 and sought asylum in the US.

After extensive briefing, preparation and lengthy testimony at trial, the Norton Rose Fulbright team successfully obtained asylum for the client.

The pro bono team included Andrea L. D'Ambra, Magdalena Oropeza (New York) and Ji Won Kim (Los Angeles).
