Working for Workers Act adds transparency to the hiring process

Employers in Ontario will need to update their hiring practices to align with the legislated requirements outlined in the newly passed Working for Workers Act. The legislation contains new requirements, including pay transparency, Canadian work experience, and disclosing the use of AI in the hiring process. Our Partner Heather Cameron sat down with the Canadian HR Reporter to discuss the legislative changes and their impact on companies. "This is part of a broader theme to raise transparency — we're seeing transparency around pay, transparency around qualifications, but also now there's transparency around how the recruitment process works," said Heather Cameron, a partner in our Ottawa office. While many of these requirements are already considered best practices, the Act will prompt some employers to look at their hiring methods and make changes. While the government of Ontario didn't specify when the changes would come into force, companies have some time to start looking into their processes and make changes where necessary.
