Norton Rose Fulbright recognised in the UK Stonewall Workplace Equality Index for 2019

United Kingdom Press release - Recognition February 6, 2019

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been included in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index for the sixth consecutive year. The index is known as the most rigorous diversity benchmark in the UK, with the number of submissions from employers increasing significantly year on year.

This year’s Top 100 was the largest ever with 445 employers entering, demonstrating their commitment to LGBT workplace inclusion. The WEI is a powerful evidence-based benchmarking tool used by employers to assess their achievements and progress on LGBT inclusion in the workplace. As part of the Top 100, Stonewall collects more than 92,000 anonymous responses from employees on their experience of Britain’s workplace culture and diversity.

The firm’s Pride network has also been awarded the Highly Commended Network Group for the third consecutive year. Pride is chaired by associate Jack Mason and sponsored by partners Owen Mulholland and Catrina Smith. Senior knowledge lawyer Laura Hodgson and associate Jamie Morton acted as co-chairs for the Pride network throughout 2018. The award is a real testament to the role the network has played in helping to maintain a supportive environment for LGBT colleagues.

Farmida Bi, chair of Europe, Middle East and Asia at Norton Rose Fulbright commented:

“We are extremely proud to be included in this list for the sixth consecutive year. I want to congratulate the Pride Committee for all their achievements over the last year. The ranking continues to be a testament to the firm’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.”

Jack Mason, chair of the Pride Network said:

“As a firm we continue to promote an inclusive culture and we are delighted to be continually recognised in the Stonewall rankings. We remain dedicated to creating a culture where employees can bring their whole selves to work.”

Darren Towers, Stonewall’s Executive Director said:

“Norton Rose Fulbright and all those who have made this year’s Top 100 Employers list are making a huge difference to workplaces, services and communities across the UK. LGBT-inclusive employers play a crucial role in changing society by using their power and influence to protect and support LGBT people. More than a third of LGBT staff (35 per cent) still hide their identity at work for fear of discrimination; that has an impact on productivity, wellbeing and more and shows we still have lots to do. However, with organisations like Norton Rose Fulbright displaying such a strong commitment to LGBT equality, we are one step closer to creating a world where all lesbian, gay, bi and trans employees are welcomed and accepted without exception.”
