Two Canadian partners named 2023 Lexpert Leading Lawyers Under 40
Canada | Recognition | November 2023
Partners Kaitlin Long (Calgary) and Peter Riddell (Montréal) have been recognized as 2023 Lexpert Rising Stars at the Lexpert Rising Stars Awards 2023, honouring a select group of leading lawyers under 40 across Canada.
This acknowledgement is widely seen as a recognition of the next generation of legal industry trailblazers and leaders.
Kaitlin is a leading litigator who works with clients in the energy industry on regulatory, environmental compliance and Indigenous law matters. Kaitlin is experienced in complex, high-stakes litigation and regularly advances her clients’ interests in court and administrative hearings, managing teams of lawyers, paralegals, staff and experts. She is one of the key contacts to a number of our Calgary office’s largest clients, while also being a key contact for our international offices in the areas of regulatory and Indigenous law.
Kaitlin is the co-founder and co-chair of our Indigenous Relations Network, which is dedicated to reconciliation, and is highly involved in our work to achieve Progressive Aboriginal Relations certification. A mentor, a teacher and a sponsor, Kaitlin is also focused on building relationships and assisting the practice of her peers and juniors.
Peter is a sought-after strategist who co-chairs our business law group in Montréal. His practice is focused on strategic private M&A for large multinational organizations across various industries, most notably aerospace. Peter often leads a large team, leveraging the firm’s global network and his extensive knowledge to pursue our clients’ business interests.
In his time outside of the firm, Peter is a member of the board of directors of The Depot Community Food Centre, a non-profit addressing issues of food security in Montréal, which he also assists on a pro bono basis. Dedicated to the growth and success of those around him, as a well as the firm itself, Peter has been a key member of the firm’s student committee and continues to mentor articling students and junior lawyers.
Presented by Lexpert and supported by Canadian Lawyer and InHouse magazines, the awards celebrate personal aspirations and contributions beyond the profession, such as volunteering, board membership and education. The recognition draws on an extensive review by an advisory panel comprising esteemed legal professionals and the editorial team’s research to recognize the most outstanding private practitioners and in-house young professionals in Canada.
Peter will be included as a Leading Practitioner in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2024 and Kaitlin will be listed as a Lawyer to Watch.
