Canadian and US Private wealth, trusts and estates lawyers receive top rankings in Chambers High Net Worth 2023 Guide
Global | Press release - Recognition | July 2023
Our private wealth, trusts and estates team has once again earned top department rankings in the Chambers High Net Worth 2023 Guide, with the Canadian team ranking in Band 1 for the sixth consecutive year. Recognized Canadian lawyers include partners Carmen Thériault (Band 1), Laura West (Band 2, up a level from last year), and Kirsten Jenkins (Band 3), showcasing the deep bench strength of this team in the private wealth law space.
Additionally, the US ranks highly with a department ranking of Band 2 (Texas), with partners Celeste Lawton (Band 2) and Joseph Sleeth (Band 2) receiving individual recognitions.
The Chambers High Net Worth Guide focuses on the private wealth market and its high-profile clientele. Results are based on independent research done by the publication. The guide is an internationally curated publication that ranks lawyers and law firms operating in the private wealth sector. Band 1 is the highest attainable ranking available collectively for a law firm.
In Canada, Jenkins, West and Thériault focus on estate planning, related trust structures, business succession, governance and related matters. Their advice is often sought by families across Canada who control or have significant ownership interests in multi-generational legacy assets, including large privately held or public companies. West also advises on charitable giving strategies, including through the use of foundations and other structures.
In the US, both Sleeth in Houston and Lawton in Houston/San Antonio are part of our long-standing private wealth, trusts and estates team. Sleeth focuses on wealth transfer planning with emphasis on the transfer of family or privately held businesses, while Lawton focuses on estate planning and estate administration for wealthy families and individuals.
