The Municipal Forum of New York (MFNY) awarded Homer Schaaf (New York) the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing him for his outstanding contributions and dedication to public finance and public service.
The award was presented by Prescott Ulrey, general counsel of the New York City Office of Management and Budget, at the awards dinner in Manhattan.
"I hope you realize how much (Schaaf) has contributed to the city that he loves," Ulrey said. "I cannot even calculate the amount of money that Homer has raised for city roads, bridges, schools and cultural institutions. I can't imagine any public space in this city that hasn't benefited from his work."
In his law practice, Schaaf serves as bond counsel, underwriters' counsel and company counsel on a multitude of issuances and conversions of general obligation and revenue bonds and stranded-cost and storm-recovery securitizations.
Founded in 1992, the MFNY hosts the yearly awards dinner to raise funds to support The Forum's Urban Leadership Fellows Program, a paid summer internship and college scholarship program for graduating New York City seniors interested in careers in the finance industry. Over the past 30 years, 808 high school seniors have participated in the internship program and collectively received US$1.1 million in support of their studies.
