LISW23: Shipbuilding Contracts, Technological Innovation and Decarbonisation
Event Details
For shipping to meet global decarbonisation objectives, new technology and alternative fuels will be critical. The recent boom in demand for newbuilding vessels has been driven partly by the need to move away from older vessels which will struggle to meet increasingly stringent decarbonisation targets. New vessels will have to adopt new technology such as using novel fuels including ammonia, dual fuel engines, fuel cells, battery power, carbon capture, shore power connections, sails and other innovations.
However, with new technologies come new risks for both buyers of newbuilding vessels, technology providers and shipyards.
Poonam Melwani KC (Quadrant Chambers) will moderate an interactive panel discussion on how shipbuilding contracts will have to adapt – covering the risks, complications, opportunities and ways to manage them. Poonam will be joined by James Turner KC (Quadrant Chambers), Charlotte Winter and Ieronymos Bikakis (Norton Rose Fulbright) and other industry professionals.
Our events are in-person and spaces are limited. Allocation will be done on a first come, first served basis.
