Our global mining team attended the African Mining Indaba 2025, where we explored the critical theme of “Geopolitical and Sovereign Risk – How to assess and manage it.”

In an era where global uncertainty and regulatory complexities continue to shape the mining landscape, our discussions focused on strategies to navigate geopolitical shifts, sovereign risk, and regulatory challenges across Africa. We proudly brought forward-thinking insights into the evolving legal, financial, and operational considerations impacting the sector, engaging with key stakeholders to drive meaningful dialogue on risk mitigation, investment security, and sustainable growth.

Our 2025 international delegates

Our Norton Rose Fulbright Mining Indaba 2025 team featured senior, international delegates renowned for their expertise in mining, finance, and energy law. Represented countries included Australia, Dubai (UAE), France, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States, alongside our African alliance partners from Uganda and Zimbabwe. These distinguished thought leaders brought decades of experience, ensuring a dynamic exchange of ideas and strengthening cross-border connections in the mining industry.

GC Forum 2025: Sponsorship & Key Participation

Norton Rose Fulbright was also a sponsor and key participant at the GC Forum 2025, held as part of the Mining Indaba engagements. The forum brought together general councils from across the spectrum and business leaders to explore critical issues shaping the mining sector.

Jackie Midlane, Head of banking and finance, and Matthew Ash, Head of energy for Norton Rose Fulbright South Africa led a pivotal discussion on “Energy in Mining – The Roles of financier, developer, and offtaker – The risk allocation in delivering energy to mines.” Their panel explored financing models, risk-sharing mechanisms, and the evolving dynamics of sustainable energy solutions for mining operations.
