For the third year running, we are excited to be exhibiting at Gastech, the world’s leading forum dedicated to steering the energy industry to a more sustainable future. We are proud to be Hydrogen Host Sponsors, demonstrating our commitment to building the hydrogen economy with the industry poised for take-off and hydrogen set to play a pivotal role in the future energy mix. Our global energy team is renowned for advising on significant, ‘first of a kind’ cross-border deals. In the last three years, we have advised on more than 330 transactions, totaling more than US$221 billion in value (IJGlobal, 2024).

Top-tier energy practices

LNG

LNG is one of the cornerstones of our global energy practice. We understand the vertically integrated nature of the LNG value chain and have worked with our clients on some of the largest and most complicated LNG projects in the world.

Our market-leading LNG practice is built upon a comprehensive understanding of the LNG and natural gas industries.  We have advised on several billion dollar LNG projects globally and partner with our clients to successfully close deals.

Our lawyers have successfully established a renowned track record in advising NOCs, IOCs, LNG terminal owners and operators, LNG traders, utilities, and other LNG buyers and sellers, as well as equity investors and debt providers to LNG projects throughout the world, across the LNG value chain and project lifecycle: from project inception through financing, operational, and commercial matters. This experience enables us to quickly identify issues during a due diligence and negotiation process, assess which issues are material to the transaction and pricing, and devise commercially orientated solutions. Our LNG commercial team is well versed in full LNG chain contractual risk analysis and allocation.

Hydrogen

Hydrogen is one of the most talked about technologies in the market, not least because of the important role it can play in meeting global climate goals.

For energy companies which have traditionally been based on hydrocarbons, it offers a way to transition the business using existing resources, technology and know-how. We are one of the leading international legal practices helping clients navigate both the opportunities and the challenges of developing (green and blue) hydrogen projects.

We are trusted by our clients to deliver first-in-jurisdiction and first technology projects. We offer our clients creative legal solutions to difficult business problems by benchmarking technology deployment across different jurisdictions. We have a thorough understanding of the structures, risk profiles and complex regulatory regimes that are critical to the success of closing ground-breaking, multi-faceted hydrogen transactions around the world.

Our in-depth industry knowledge comes from decades of representing companies in oil and gas, power and renewable energy markets and is a huge advantage for us when assisting clients in emerging technologies such as hydrogen, where it is becoming clear that project structures, methods of financing, and the contracts are all based on existing models in which we are well-versed. As well as working on a number of first wave hydrogen projects, we have been heavily involved in tracking legal, regulatory and commercial developments globally.

Carbon, capture and storage (CCS)

We are pioneers in the CCS space, with market leading experience on a number of the largest CO2 projects currently under development. We have been at the forefront of thinking on CCS projects for over a decade, and truly believe our experience is unmatched by any other law firm.

Many countries and corporations view CCS as one of the main technologies available to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from extensive use of fossil fuels. Investment into carbon capture technologies is growing rapidly, as is government support around the world. Utilizing depleted oil and gas fields that are proven traps to permanently sequester CO2 and other GHGs is also increasing.

As one of leading legal practices helping clients navigate both the opportunities and the challenges of developing CCS projects, we are one of very few law firms to be advising on a number of truly global CCS projects. Our team is leading on a number of major first-of-a-kind and first-in-jurisdiction projects and are currently advising on a range of negotiations and regulatory matters. We are familiar with various business and regulatory models around the world (having not only developed but also implemented projects using these), and as a result, have significant ‘first mover’ advantage.
