Global M&A trends and risks 2023
Powerful new forces shaping the M&A landscape
Norton Rose Fulbright has prepared the Global M&A Trends and Risks 2023 report, in collaboration with Mergermarket, speaking with over 200 senior executives to examine trends in the global M&A market. The report offers valuable insights for our clients in the Europe and Middle East region, including for those in Turkey.
Notably, 66 percent of respondents identified stricter regulation as a potential challenge to M&A activity for Europe and the Middle East. While senior executives agree that a number of jurisdictions have an increasingly complex regulatory environment, we note that the types of regulation that concern them are distinctly different.
Respondents to our survey perceive ESG and climate change regulations as the primary type of regulation that will suppress M&A activity in Europe and the Middle East. However, regulation is no longer the only factor at play.
Ayşe Yüksel Mahfoud, Norton Rose Fulbright's Global Head of Corporate, M&A and Securities, noted that "the focus on ESG goals is increasingly being driven by businesses themselves—by multinationals, financing institutions, and global private equity funds."
