Biography

Edward Low is a disputes lawyer with a focus on international arbitration and maritime work based in Tokyo. He also supports on transactional matters including M&A, banking and finance.

Edward has experience with commercial disputes involving a wide range of industry sectors that include energy, semiconductors, maritime, construction, foods, and sports. He has managed arbitrations conducted under the SIAC, HKIAC, ICC, and CAS arbitration rules, and involving the application of a variety of governing laws, including New York law, Californian law, English law, Chinese law, Hong Kong law and Singapore law.

Before joining the firm, Edward was an assistant to one of Asia's leading arbitrators where he served as tribunal secretary in a number of arbitrations.

  • Advising NYK, K Line, CLNG and MISC on the limited recourse project financing of 12 newbuilding LNG carriers under construction in Korea and China for the QatarEnergy vessel procurement project with covered and uncovered loan facilities totaling US$1.95billion.
  • Advising Sponsors NYK, K Line, CLNG and MISC on their successful tender and award of 12 newbuilding LNG carriers for the QatarEnergy vessel procurement project (round 1).
  • Advising Sponsor NYK on their tender for newbuilding LNG carriers for the QatarEnergy vessel procurement project (round 2).
  • Advising a Japanese bank in respect of the financing for seven newbuilding LNG carriers under the QatarEnergy vessel procurement project with covered and uncovered loan facilities.
  • Advising financiers on the financing of and potential disputes relating to eight floating production, storage and offloading units for Modec Inc and other Japanese sponsors, including, most recently the Carioca MV27 FPSO project in Brazil, the TEN MV25 FPSO project in Ghana, and the MV34 FPSO project in Mexico (the first project financings of FPSO projects in Ghana and Mexico, respectively).
  • Representing SMBC and Lenders as creditors in respect of the liquidation of a group of Singaporean companies, including the settlement of a dispute with another creditor.
  • Advising a Japanese joint-venture company in respect of its ownership of shares in an Australian aluminum smelter, transitioning from reliance on a coal-fired power station to renewable energy.
  • Advising a Japanese energy company in respect of its sale of Taiwanese offshore wind farms to an Australian entity.
