Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has strengthened its Johannesburg mining team with the hire of director, Anneke Higgs.
Anneke joins from the Pretoria Society of Advocates and Johannesburg Bar where she worked for 15 years with clients including major mining houses. She was admitted as an attorney, conveyancer and notary public in 1998 and, before practising as an advocate, she practised at a leading law firm from 1998 to 2002 and she was employed as legal counsel at De Beers Consolidated Mines from 2002 to 2008.
Stephen Kennedy-Good, head of the business practice group and M&A team in South Africa said:
"Anneke is known and respected by our clients and her hire will be well-received by our mining clients. We are one of the few practices, perhaps the only, that boast both a Professor and a Doctor as leading mining lawyers, and co-authors of the mining authority, South African Mineral and Petroleum Law. Professor Michael Dale, who leads our mining team, and Dale Cridlan, who leads our tax team, are also authors to this text.
Anneke focuses on mining, minerals, property, water and environmental law. She has appeared in most of the High Courts in South Africa, the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court."
