Biography
Al Bottalico works on all aspects of financial regulation of insurance companies, including financial examinations, statutory accounting, auditing, actuarial and California Insurance Code requirements. Al also assists insurance companies in completing various filing requirements such as certificate of authority applications, accredited reinsurer applications, holding company act filings and more.
Al was deeply involved as a regulator with various working groups within the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and worked closely on the creation of the ORSA Model Law, ORSA Guidance Manual, Corporate Governance Model Act and amendments to the Model Holding Company Act, as well as many other projects. He also chaired the NAIC's Financial Examiners Handbook Technical Group for many years.
On the international level, Al participated in the US-EU Dialogue project and discussions regarding the US FSAP reviews, numerous supervisory colleges and is also conversant with Solvency II requirements.
Al has nearly 40 years of insurance regulatory experience which includes his previous position as the Deputy Commissioner of the financial surveillance branch of the California Department of Insurance.
