Senior associate wins inaugural Rising Star Award from Texas Minority Counsel Program

Senior associate Reginald Wilson of Houston has been named the inaugural 2021 Rising Star Award recipient by the Texas Minority Counsel Program (TMCP), an honor recognizing his extraordinary support and advocacy for the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion within the legal profession.  

Wilson, whose Norton Rose Fulbright practice focuses on public law, has been active in advancing diversity both inside and outside the law firm throughout his career. Among his efforts, he serves as a director for the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the public service arm of the State Bar of Texas, where he focuses on diversity initiatives. He also serves as a mentor with Go to High School, Go to College, an educational initiative in which underrepresented students learn the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education.

For Norton Rose Fulbright, Wilson serves on the influential Racial Equity Council, created in 2020 in response to the country's wave of civil unrest. The counsel's mission is to improve the experience of the firm's black personnel and to advance racial equity throughout the firm. With Wilson's help, the council has made significant progress toward those goals.

Professionally, Wilson has experience in traditional tax backed financings, tax increment financings, revenue financings and private placements. He acts as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, underwriters' counsel and trustees' counsel in a variety of transactions involving municipal governments, including cities and counties, independent school districts, healthcare systems, universities, tax increment reinvestment zones, conduits and non-profit organizations. He also serves as general counsel to various special districts in Texas.

Created in 1993 by the Texas Bar Association, the TMCP's mission is to increase opportunities for diverse attorneys who provide legal services to corporate and governmental clients and to expose organizations to the legal talent of diverse attorneys in Texas. The TMCP is open to all attorneys and aims to bolster the amount and significance of legal work of historically underrepresented attorneys including minority, women and LGBTQ+ attorneys.

The award will be presented to Wilson at the 30^th annual TMCP conference during an awards luncheon in November.
