United States | Press release - Business | July 2023
Norton Rose Fulbright's Chicago and New York lawyers represented web3 leader Yuga Labs in its agreement to acquire Roar Studios, a company at the convergence of gaming, social media and the metaverse with deep technology and AI roots.
Yuga Labs is a web3 company whose initiatives aim to reinvent what real-world utility for NFTs looks like and push the space forward as a whole, holding the distinction of being one of the first companies to release IP licenses to its NFT holders.
The home of Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs acquired and released rights to other top collections such as CryptoPunks and Meebits and also broke web3 records for synchronized player participation with Otherside, its ambitious, interoperable metaverse project. In March 2022, Yuga Labs raised a US$450m seed round at a US$4bn valuation.
Roar Studios is the developer of ROAR, an immersive media experience where artists and fans connect, collaborate and compete in real time from anywhere.
Norton Rose Fulbright partners Sameer Ghaznavi (Chicago) and Ward Atterbury (New York) led this transaction, with Joseph Scialabba and Laura Konkel comprising the remainder of the core deal team.
Additional support was provided by Bill Cavanagh, Marjorie Glover, Andrew Lom, Benjamin Roth, Elie Krief (New York), Christopher Hines, Erica Cook (Chicago), Madison Keeble (Austin), Rachael Browndorf (Denver), Hersh Verma (Houston) and Jennifer Xiaodan Zhang (Dallas).
