Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has been named Asia Pacific Legal Advisor of the Year and has been awarded 16 Deal of the Year accolades by IJ Global at regional ceremonies held in Dubai, Singapore, New York and London, this month. The IJ Global Awards celebrate excellence and recognise the best energy, infrastructure and mining deals from around the world over the past year in addition to the market’s leading advisers.

Refinancing Deal of the Year: Rabigh 1 IPP financing
Counsel to the banks for the multi-tranche Sharia compliant $1.8bn refinancing of the Rabigh IPP power plant project which has been developed by an ACWA Power-led consortium in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Led by Paul Mansouri and Robin Balmer.

Midstream Oil and Gas Deal of the Year: Bahrain LNG
Advising The Oil & Gas Holding Company B.S.C. (Closed) (nogaholding) on the development of Bahrain’s  first LNG receiving and regasification terminal project, in respect of the onshore and offshore aspects, including the development, construction and shipping aspects, as well as the financing of the transaction. Led by Nick Prowse, Joanne Emerson Taqi, Charles Whitney and Chris Down.

Asia Pacific (awarded on March 9)

Power Deal of the Year: Central Java coal–fired power
Engaged by IFC to advise PLN as the state owned entity and offtaker in connection with the development of the 2,000 MW Central Java IPP project in Indonesia. Led by Jeff Smith and Nicky Davies.

Solar Deal of the Year: Lakeland PV solar farm and storage solution
Advised Conergy on the development and project financing of Australia’s first solar and battery storage project. Led by Simon Currie.

Wind Deal of the Year: Tsetsii wind farm
Provided Singapore law advice to Denmark’s Vestas Asia Pacific Wind Technology on the supply of turbines for Mongolia’s 50 MW Tsetsii wind farm. Led by Yu-En Ong.

Telecoms Deal of the Year: Hawaiki submarine cable
Advised TE Subcom in connection with the supply and financing of the cable. Led by Daniel Metcalfe, Mike Pikiel and Chris Redden.

Mining Deal of the Year: Oyu Tolgoi Copper – Gold mine
Advised Turquoise Hill on the $4.4bn project financing for the Oyu Tolgoi copper gold project in Mongolia. Led by Steve Malas and Martin Theriault.

Americas (awarded on March 15)

North American Ports Deal of the Year: Kingston Container Terminal Expansion
Advised IDB, Proparco, DEG, FMO and commercial B lenders on US$265m of loans to Kingston Freeport Terminal LTD. Led by Jeffrey H. Goodman and Mike Pikiel.

North American Water Deal of the Year: Vista Ridge Regional Water Supply Project
Co-counsel to the San Antonio Water System in connection with a water supply project consisting of the production, treatment, delivery and sale of 50,000 acre-feet per year of potable water on a long term basis. Led by Clay Binford.

North American Project Bond Deal of the Year: Long Beach Civic Center PPP
Advised Plenary Group USA Concessions Ltd. and certain affiliates including its project company on the project, including the financing of a portion of the project through the private placement of long-term, senior secured notes with an institutional investor. Led by Mike Pikiel.

Europe and Africa (awarded on March 29)

African Oil and Gas Deal of the Year: Angola LNG refinancing
Advised a consortium of global financial institutions on a financing for Angola LNG. Led by Madhavi Gosavi and Charles Whitney.

African Renewables Deal of the Year: Kathu CSP
Advising Engie as lead sponsor in the development, finance, construction, operation and maintenance of the Kathu 100MW CSP plant using parabolic trough technology. Led by Katia Mengel.

European Offshore Deal of the Year: Merkur
Advising Coriolis, a joint venture company owned by GE and ADEME, on its equity investment‎ in the German offshore wind farm project Merkur. Led by Klaus Bader and Anne Lapierre.

European Transport Deal of the Year: London City Airport
Consenting/planning advice on the proposed expansion of the airport (the City Airport Development Programme) and played a supporting role on the sale and purchase of the airport. Led by Duncan Field.

African Mining Deal of the Year: Sangaredi
Advised CBG in reaching financial close in connection with the financing of the expansion of its Sangaredi Bauxite Mine. Led by Martin McCann and Daniel Giemajner.

African Power Deal of the Year: Amandi
Advised Endeavor Energy as sponsor to Amandi Energy Limited on the US$552 million Amandi Energy Power Plant. Led by Arun Velusami and Jason Moss.
