Sandton, Johannesburg | January 29, 2020Join Norton Rose Fulbright’s Health Law Practice and Professor Pieter Carstens on Wednesday, 29 January 2020 at 16:00 to 17:30 followed by cocktails where Professor Carstens will share his journey from being diagnosed with aggressive squamous cell carcinoma of the skull, his search for a dignified death in South Africa, his experience with Dignitas Switzerland and reservation of a date with death, recovery and in that context a review of the law as it currently stands in South Africa regarding patient and doctor assisted euthanasia, recent developments in that regard and pending litigation.
Professor Carstens is a professor of Criminal and Medical Law at the University of Pretoria and the Director of the Centre for Law and Medicine.
