Biography

Thokola Zungu is an Associate in the Corporate M&A (Business Law and securities) team in Johannesburg. She focuses on mergers and acquisitions (domestic and cross border), financing transactions (secured or otherwise; including preference share funding transactions), restructurings, funding arrangements and other corporate transactional work. Her corporate experience includes the drafting, reviewing and negotiation of the contracts on which the aforementioned transactions are predicated. In this workstream Thokola acts for financial institutions in addition to listed and unlisted corporate clients.

In addition to her corporate workstream, Thokola Zungu assists the Banking and Finance team. Her finance work streams include loan facilities, preference share funding, acquisition funding, fund financing and general, project, and property finance from both the local and cross-border perspectives. Her practice area experience for her finance work streams includes local and cross-border transactions advising commercial banks, development finance institutions, borrowers and sponsors (both onshore and offshore).

Thokola Zungu joined the firm as a candidate attorney in 2022. In addition to her focus areas (Business Law, Corporate M&A and Banking and Finance) she has valuable experience in Commercial and Construction Litigation through the use of dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration, commercial litigation, investigations, procurement and alternative dispute resolution to deal with and assist on forensic investigations, disciplinary actions, inquiries, and disputes in construction. Further, she has experience in Insurance Litigation through defending claims in healthcare, construction, rail infrastructure and other related liability claims.
