Norton Rose Fulbright advises ING Bank on project financing of 55 MW nearshore wind farm in the Netherlands

Netherlands Press release - Business February 2025

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised ING Bank N.V. as sole financier on the successful senior refinancing of the 55 MW nearshore windfarm IJsselmeerwinT in the Ijsselmeer (part of Windplan Blauw), the Netherlands.

The development of the windfarm consisted of the construction and commissioning of 10 nearshore turbines, that are part of 24 turbines lined up across two rows, replacing the 28 turbines of the Irene Vorrink wind farm previously located along the dike. The fully operational Windplan Blauw windfarm consists of a total of 61 turbines, divided between land and water and was completed in 2024.

The Amsterdam-based team advising ING Bank on this significant refinancing was led by partners Wouter Hertzberger (banking) and Daphne Broerse (projects), with support from counsel Marjolein Pichel (banking) and Stefanie Walthaus (notary), senior associate Annemarie Creutzberg (projects), and associates Rik van der Laan and Martijn Knigge (both banking). The wider Amsterdam-based team consisted of partner Bart le Blanc (tax), Saskia Blokland (corporate), consultants Anthony Pallett (banking) and Matthijs van Leeuwen (energy), senior associates Tanara Ubink (banking) and Nivard Witte (notary), and associates Willemijn Holm, Frances Hoogenberg, and Maryam Malakotipour (all banking), Maaike Faase, Alwin Kroon, Enes Altintop, and Amina Šehović (all projects), Marjolein Lensing (corporate), Iris Heins (notary), and Daan Goedemoed (tax). The supporting London-based team included partner Nigel Dickinson, associates Carla Akuamoah Antelo and Luke White-Thomson, and trainee Madeline Lee (all banking).

Wouter Hertzberger commented:

“We are pleased to have supported our client ING Bank on this senior refinancing of the IJsselmeerwinT nearshore wind farm. This was a challenging refinancing project because of the contract structure and some tight timelines in a very busy fourth quarter, so we are delighted to have reached a timely financial close, much to the satisfaction of all parties.”
