If I had to give a piece of advice about overcoming challenge and managing change, it would all be about looking at how you can shift your perception of what’s happening to you. One of the things when I was first paralysed, for example, that I was focussed on was all the things that I was missing and lacking in my life and the fact I couldn’t walk anymore but when I shifted my view to all the things that I still had and all the things that I still could do it really really helped me see the good in the situation. There’s a lot to be gained through the challenges of life, you’ve probably come across the concept of post traumatic growth. So the three questions I always ask myself when I find myself in challenge are; what can I learn from this, how might this help in the future and how might this help other people in the future and that brings meaning to the situation and when we have meaning it makes us a lot happier because there seems to be some purpose to everything that’s going on. So reframing things, seeing things differently, appreciating what we have, being grateful for what we have because sometimes it’s so easy to focus on what we’re missing and lacking those things are just super helpful to navigate the difficult things of life. |
