Norton Rose Fulbright significantly expands Italian competition practice with two major hires

Global Press release - People January 2025

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has strengthened its antitrust and competition practice in Italy with the appointment of two new partners, Veronica Pinotti and Martino Sforza.

Veronica and Martino, who both join from White & Case, will be based in Norton Rose Fulbright’s Milan office and will work particularly closely on EU matters with the firm’s Brussels office. They will also work alongside the firm’s existing market-leading EMEA antitrust and competition team, located across numerous offices around the world.

Veronica has 30 years’ experience practising EU antitrust and regulatory law, across both advisory and litigation matters. This includes acting for European and international clients before the European Commission, national competition regulatory authorities, and civil and administrative courts. Veronica also advises clients in relation to complex joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, cartels, abuse of dominance, state aid, and issues connected to regulated markets. Veronica has been ranked as a leading individual in Competition Law by Chambers & Partners for over 15 years, as well as being a “Hall of Fame” Legal 500 lawyer.

Martino has extensive experience working across the full spectrum of antitrust law, with a particular emphasis on consumer protection, data privacy and regulated markets. He also regularly advises on cartel and abuse of dominance investigations, merger control, and compliance with EU and national laws. The Legal 500 2024 recognised him as a Next Generation Partner in EU and Competition Law.

Ian Giles, EMEA Head of Antitrust and Competition, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Veronica and Martino to our EMEA antitrust and competition practice. Our practice is recognised among the world’s top 10 Global Elite competition practices and has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, with growing demand across a wide range of areas of competition, antitrust and regulatory laws. Veronica and Martino’s huge depth of experience and impressive skillsets will be invaluable to ensure that we can continue to provide the highest quality support to our global clients, and significantly expand our presence in Italy, an important market, as well as in Brussels.”

Attilio Pavone, Head of Italy at Norton Rose Fulbright, said:

“This year our office in Milan is celebrating 25 years since it was opened, which is the perfect time to be welcoming new members to the team. The addition of Veronica and Martino – who are leading names in their field – will act to further enhance the firm’s Italian practice, as well as our offering to both our national and international clients.”

Norton Rose Fulbright has a team of over 150 antitrust and competition lawyers in 20 countries, who advise on all aspects of antitrust law, including multinational mergers and clearances, cartels, abuse of dominance, international investigations, compliance and antitrust litigation. The firm’s lawyers are qualified in multiple jurisdictions and practice before courts and competition authorities across the world.
