Biography
Charlton is a dispute resolution lawyer based in Hong Kong. His practice focuses on commercial and insurance litigation and handles a wide range of commercial disputes, with a particular focus on regulatory investigations and defending professional indemnity claims.
Charlton has experience in handling corporate loan recovery, complex contractual disputes, Securities and Futures Commission investigations as well as obtaining injunctive and interim reliefs on behalf of clients.
Charlton also acted for professional service firms and their insurers, including accountants and lawyers in the defending civil claims. He also acted for hospitals and medical healthcare professionals in defending civil claims and advising on disciplinary proceedings. He also regularly advise on policy interpretations and complex indemnity issues of insurance policies.
Charlton was admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court in Hong Kong in September 2013. He graduated from Durham University in 2010 and obtained Postgraduate Certificate in Laws from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2011. He is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

- Debt recovery – Representing client in the debt recovery process, including considering the possibility of commencing winding up proceedings against the Issuer and issuing statutory demand on the Issuer, as well as advising client on insolvency / restructuring related issues.
- Injunction - Acting for a global hardware giant in successfully obtaining an urgent application against its former employee for misuse and misappropriation of the Company’s confidential information and trade secrets.
- Hong Kong listed company- Advising on-going investigation matter for failure to disclose inside information related offence by the SFC and HKEX.
- CEO of a Hong Kong listed company - Advising CEO of a Hong Kong listed company in relation to internal investigations and matters in relation to potential investigations conducted by the ICAC and FRC.
- Accountant firm - Advising Insurers and defending an accounting firm in professional negligence claim by the liquidators of their former client after discovery of serious fraud on the part of the directors and shareholders of the company.
- Law firm – Defending a law firm in a negligence claim by a former client on allegations of fraud on the former client's agent and disputing instructions given by the former client through her agent.
- A matrimonial law firm in Hong Kong – Advising a reputable law firm in its claim against a former client for unpaid legal fees and defending the counterclaim for professional negligence raised by the former client as defence and counterclaim, and a separate application for taxation of the law firm's bill of costs.
- Private hospitals – Defending private hospitals and healthcare medical professionals in Hong Kong in medical negligence claims and advising on disciplinary proceedings.
