Biography
Michael Ings is a banking and finance lawyer based in London. He has a broad practice encompassing corporate lending, leveraged finance and restructurings. He also has extensive experience in the telecoms and media sectors, leading a team representing both borrowers and lenders on a wide spectrum of deals.
Michael has been described in Chambers & Partners as “exactly what we need from a banking lawyer” and in The Legal 500 as “untouchable for telecoms finance work”. One client commented in The Legal 500 UK 2021 "We have always used Michael Ings and his team. Michael is hugely knowledgeable in this area with extensive experience of banking documentation. He advises many corporate clients and financial institutions on debt raising, including Trinity Mirror, Tullow, Jupiter Fund Management and Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund, and he acts regularly for a number of well-known banks.
Michael has over 20 years’ experience in the telecoms and media sector throughout the EMEA region, particularly Africa. His recent experience includes advising the lenders in the financing of Helios Towers’ operations in Ghana, Tanzania and DRC, and IHS Towers’ operations in Nigeria, as well as advising Etisalat Nigeria on all its external financings. He also advised the lenders to MTN Nigeria and Ghana on a series of financings from local and international banks and ECAs.
Michael has also advised on numerous debt restructurings, including in both the telecoms sector and for hotel operators.
He joined the London practice in 1983, qualified as a Solicitor in 1985 and become a Partner in 1994.
