Jonathan Herbst recognised in Financial News' 50 Most Influential Lawyers

Global Press release - Recognition April 2022

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright’s Jonathan Herbst has been included in Financial News’ Fifty Most Influential Lawyers 2022 list.

The list, which is in its second year, celebrates outstanding leaders in management roles at top-tier firms or practices, as well as executives advising on large and/or innovative mergers and acquisitions, private equity deals, IPOs, equity and debt capital markets transactions, regulation and employment law.

Jonathan Herbst, who is Norton Rose Fulbright’s global head of financial services regulation, joined the London practice as a partner in October 2002. He is a leading practitioner in the field of UK and EU financial services law and regulation, specialising in regulatory advice relating to bank structuring, markets, commodity derivatives, custody and clearing and the regulatory aspects of acquisitions and disposals.

Much of Jonathan’s work now involves strategic advice to senior management and legal teams on the implications of regulatory reform and relationships. He recently advised a number of banks on the implementation of the Senior Managers' Regime. He also led a team that advised UK Finance and a consortium of retail and corporate banks on the creation of the UK government’s Bounce Back Loan Scheme, which gave funding to smaller businesses to help them through the pandemic.

Jonathan said: “I am greatly honoured to feature in this list alongside so many notable names, including our global chair, Farmida Bi. It is a fascinating and extremely busy time for financial services regulation, and I see this as recognition of the work done by my entire team - who I want to thank for their continued dedication over the past few years.”

Jonathan is a leading commentator on Brexit, having co-authored a report for the Financial Services Forum on regulatory equivalence and given evidence to the House of Lords EU financial affairs sub-committee inquiry on the impact of Brexit on financial services. He also chairs the Future Regulation Group of the International Regulatory Strategy Group and is a member of the FCA’s Lawyers Consultative Group.

Jonathan is ranked Band 1 in Chambers, where he is "noted for his strength in the regulatory compliance space", as well as being recognised in Legal 500's Hall of Fame. In 2014, he won the Legal Week Client Partner of the Year (Global firm category) award.

Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chair, Farmida Bi, also features in Financial News’ Fifty Most Influential Lawyers 2022 list.
